Because spinning, weaving, dyeing, and knitting is... probably cheaper than drugs?

A little spinning from yesterday.  It’s only about 11 yds, but the important part is that this is from the Wensleydale from the other day, dyed in these absolutely awesome shades of purple, combed, and spun up from there.   There’s been house guests and craziness going on around here lately that’s meant I haven’t had the time to pull out the carder, but this lovely stuff is going to have me dragging it out soon enough because MMMMM.  Want to spiiiiiiiiiiiin!

Yesterday’s spinning.  I had an idea for what I want to do with it, so I decided to just do a softly-plied 2 ply and I’m pretty darn happy with it.

Koriand’r

So while at Maryland Sheep & Wool, I didn’t so much buy a full fleece as a full cutting from one sheep.  At 1 1/2 lbs, there’s plenty of it and the stuff is gorgeous:  yearling Wensleydale, incredibly soft and really shiny and as you can see above, really nice spun up.  I did that right from the comb with just a few locks, spun in the grease since it already felt so clean!  I love love love it and I have to try and clean/dye some more!

My new spindle! This is the lighter of the two arm sets and OMG it spins so nicely, so even and fast and for so long. It’s the first spindle where I like flicking it. The yarn I’m making with it is really even and pretty balanced; I’m challenging myself, as you can see, to spin one third of the top on this. Wish me luck!

1/3 DOWN!

Here be this weekend’s spinning, the Koriand’r top I dyed up a while ago.  This stuff… it’s so odd.  It’s not supersoft, but it spins SO nicely and I think it’ll plump up with plenty of bounce too.

Going for a true 3-ply since I felt like doing a 2 ply would have made it look very much like Bink’s Sake.  Also, I want some DK for a change ^_^;

Today’s (small) bit of spinning work. Going to be doing it as a true three ply. Very excited as even this tiny tiny stuff went quick.

As it’s pouring out, the pictures are a little dark, but thankfully the colors are bright enough it almost doesn’t matter.

Last night’s spinning. More later ^_^

Spun up something else yesterday: the ‘dark’ rainbow batt.  Threadplied it with black and I’m very pleased with it: lots of texture, but the yarn itself feels very functional and is surprisingly balanced.  Also, lofty.  I feel like it’d make a really nice little cowl knit loose and webby for spring or fall.

No name, much like the batt, but:

  • 80 yds
  • thread plied
  • semi-worsted spun; woolen prep
  • fingering to dk textured

Yesterday’s spinning, as promised!  I <3 it and now need to figure out something to do with it.

  • 100 yds
  • merino cashmere nylon
  • dk weight
  • worsted spun; chainplied
